The Lecht Open 2019 is a 2-day ski race event being held on the 19th & 20th January 2018.

The following is an overview of the event:

LOCATION: Lecht 2090, Lecht Rd, Corgarff, Strathdon AB36 8YP (www.lecht.co.uk)

PROVISIONAL CALENDAR:

Saturday 19th January 2019:

  • Bairns (U8, U10 & U12) Giant Slalom - Fastest 2 of 3 runs, time and conditions permitting.

    • This will be the Bairns Championship event

  • BASS (U14, U16, U18 & Over 18) Slalom - 2 runs, times combined. Each run to count as a single-run seeding opportunity!

    • Depending on the number of entries, the "Over 18" category may be split into further categories such as "U21", "Seniors" & "Masters"

​Sunday 20th January 2019:

  • ​Bairns (U8, U10 & U12) Giant Slalom / Combi race conditions permitting - Fastest 2 of 3 runs, time and conditions permitting.

  • BASS (U14, U16, U18 & Over 18) Slalom - 2 runs, times combined.​ Each run to count as a single-run seeding opportunity!

    • Depending on the number of entries, the "Over 18" category may be split into further categories such as "U21", "Seniors" & "Masters"​

    • This will be the BASS Championship event​

Race Office will be in the “Blue Hut” at the bottom of the “Grouse” piste.

The second run will be held as quickly as possible following the first run.

Prize giving: for all age groups on the Saturday and Sunday in the Lecht Cafeteria approx. 1600.

OPEN TO:

The Lecht Open BASS race is open to all:

U14s (YOB 2005 + 2006), U16s (YOB 2003 + 2004), U18s (YOB 2001 + 2002) & Over 18s (YOB 2000 & older) that are registered with the British Alpine Seeding System (BASS) for the 2018/19 season. The draw will be carried out using BASS list 2019.2.  If you are not on the list you will be deemed to be unseeded  - so please check. The organising committee reserves the right to accept non-registered racers at their discretion.

The Bairns is open to all:

U8s (YOB 2011 and younger), U10s (YOB 2009 +2010) U12s (YOB 2007 + 2008) registered with their Home Nation Governing Body or registered as a member of an HNGB affiliated club.

If athletes are neither of the above they must submit a signed British Snowsports Athlete Declaration Form and proof of public liability insurance, which includes cover for racing with the race entry. Please email info@snowsportscotland.org for more info

MEDALS & TROPHIES:

Medals awarded 1st to 3rd in each age category for boys and girls. Trophy’s for winners on championship days - Saturday for Bairns, Sunday for BASS.

Trophy for fastest overall Bairn in combi.

 

ENTRIES:

All entries must be made by online entry form by 17:00 on Wednesday 15th January 2019. Late entries may be considered but will incur an additional late entry fee of £20. Should the race be oversubscribed then entries will be taken on a first come serve basis.

Bairns Single Day (Saturday or Sunday) - £15

Bairns Weekend (Both days) - £25

Lecht Open (BASS) Single Day (Saturday or Sunday) - £25

Lecht Open (BASS) Weekend (Both days) - £40

Payment is to be made via the official website www.thelechtopen.co.uk via PayPal. Anyone not able to use PayPal should contact the race secretary at race.secretary@thelechtopen.co.uk

COSTS:

Prices shown do not include lift passes etc.

If you wish to claim a discount on lift passes you MUST produce a valid photo membership card from your club, this is a stipulation of "The Lecht 2090"

ACCEPTANCE:

Acceptance lists will be posted on the official website at intervals and finally, shortly after 17:00 on 15th January 2019. We would urge you to check this acceptance list and notify the race secretary of any errors as early as possible. Changes on the night before the races only cause delay and inconvenience to everyone.

CANCELLATION & REFUNDS:

If the races are cancelled the organisers will endeavour to refund as much of the entry fee as they can, after covering fixed costs and expenses. However, there will be no refunds if unexpected cancellation within 24 hours.

RACE and EQUIPMENT RULES:

  • The Lecht Open is run under International Competition Rules (ICR) as amended by British Competition Rules (BCR). http://www.gbski.com/rules.php

  • For the BASS races there are no longer any regulations governing ski length for technical races.

  • All competitors and forerunners must wear approved crash helmets for all disciplines.

  • For helmets, all FIS level rules now apply for BASS too and any previous dispensations have gone. Refer to this guide https://gbski.com/helmets  and in particular to point 6 which also has a recommendation for younger age groups.

  • For the Bairns races, hard-ear helmets are compulsory.

  • Bairns are not permitted to wear catsuits while competing.

  • For all age categories it is not permissible for helmets to have any additional items such as stickers / camera mounts fitted.

  • Racers’ skis must be fitted with operational ski brakes.

 

INSURANCE:

All competitors MUST have insurance that covers them adequately for Ski Racing.

PHOTOGRAPHS:

Photographers may be present on the hill, if you object to photographs of yourself or child to be taken please inform the Chief of Race prior to the entry closing date.

COURSE INSPECTION:

The method of course inspection will be from the top of the course down. The Racer’s Bib number must be CLEARLY visible. Racers MUST NOT ski any part of the course. There will only be one course inspection for all racers.

DISQUALIFICATIONS:

It is the Racer’s responsibility to check for disqualification notices. These will be posted on the Official Notice Board following the Jury Meeting after each run. Racers will have 15 minutes from the time of posting to protest against disqualification. Protests must be made to the Referee, in writing, and be accompanied by a deposit of £25 which will be forfeited in the event of such Protest not being upheld by the Jury.
